Harlan is a character in Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. He is an advisor to King Euma, a position he has held since Euma's father was king.
History
Lord Harlan of House Follmeyer served as a Lord Councilor in Euchrisse's Chamber of Lords. He held a position of prominence in Euchrisse since the days of King
Euma's father's reign[1]. His house, House Follmeyer, apparently nearly beggared itself to support the nation during a year of famine[2]. As such, he had amassed a lot of political clout with Euma's father, which he leveraged for all it was worth[3]. He was a supporter of cuts to the Studium, making him something of an annoyance for
Melridge also[4].
By the time of King Euma's reign, Harlan was easily able to stand up to and gainsay the young, confident-lacking king. Though he glossed his words with superficial respect, he regarded Euma as weak-willed and feckless[5]. This, combined with his own personal ambitions to sit the throne of Euchrisse[6], led him to secretly entreat with Dux Aldric of the Galdean Empire through Aldric's ally Narungarde.
Purchasing a manor on the outskirts of Hishahn to better facilitate such clandestine meetings[7], Harlan would enter into a agreement with Aldric, promising to hand over Euchrisse to the empire in exchange for the retention of his wealth and power following the dissolution of the Siarith dynasty[8]. To pursue this, he would attempt to push an Euchrissian alliance with the empire through, overruling any doubts Euma may have had.
Harlan's lack of trust proved to be his downfall. He insisted on a signed agreement between himself and Dux Aldric[9]. So, when Nowa's party broke into his manor and discovered the agreement, they had ready proof of his misdeeds. When confronted, his denials quickly gave way to anger, as he argued that all this would never have happened under Euma's father and that he was driven to his actions by Euma's weak rule which he said was driving Euchrisse to ruin[10].
Kassius would order Harlan removed from the throne room for interrogation. It would later be noted that Harlan was stripped of his station[11] and his estate confiscated by the crown[12].
