Yaelu
Um, excuse me, I...um... I mean...do you think... Could you... Could you take me with you? I want to see what the rest of the world is like...

Yaelu is inquisitive by nature, and struggles to overcome her shyness and find the courage to make contact with the outside world. In contrast, her settlement uses a rune-lens to cloak itself from prying eyes. The settlement worships this lens, and it is their custom to hide their eyes behind their bangs as a sign of reverence.

Design

According to character designer Junko Kawano, Yaelu never, ever reveals her eyes due to her clan's traditions. She is always enthusiastic and Kawano has tried to express this through her art despite not being able to rely on expression through the eyes.

B'baba's Divination

Dear Little Brother
When Yaelu was young, her little brother Mihlu would always be at her side, and Yaelu doted on him the whole time.

When Mihlu took too long to find her in hide-and-seek, he would burst into tears, and Yaelu would instantly come out to console him.

Distant Love
Extremely shy Yaelu struggled to make friends, and confided only in few, like Mihlu. Love struck when she was captivated by an older village boy's sunny disposition.

Unfortunately, she never mustered the courage to approach him, thus, loving him from afar.

Hidden Village
Yaelu grew up in a secluded mountain village protected by enchantments, ensuring only residents could locate it. Everyone from the village could use rune lenses from birth.

The village had to remain hidden so their powers wouldn’t fall into the wrong hands.
