Maureus is a character in Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. Maureus is an incredibly buff self-proclaimed mage. He was first revealed in the June 2022 Kickstarter update.
History

Maureus is a self-proclaimed mage who appears not to know any actual magic. He wields a "staff", which is a giant hunk of steel requiring enormous girth to carry. Maureus specializes in "attuning himself" (getting pumped up) so he can "wield advanced spells" (strike the opponent harder with his staff).
Design
Character designer Junko Kawano describes Maureus as a "meathead wizard." His heavy staff and wristbands are designed to give the impression that he somehow built huge muscles despite having no intentions of actually working out.

| When he was young, Maureus got lost in a forest and was attacked by monsters. He was saved by Momo, who defeated them all.
Maureus was hugely impressed by the mage, and made up his mind to become strong and gallant like his savior. |

| Maureus lacked magical aptitude and, despite practice, struggled with his spells. When crossing paths with Momo again, he asked him for advice, and Momo replied, "Cuteness is justice."
Realizing he may have misunderstood magic, Maureus embraced a broader perspective. |

| Maureus kept looking for a form of magic that worked for him, and soon discovered a talent for magic that enhanced his body.
He hit upon the idea of perfecting his magic by training his own strength. This was the birth of muscle magic. |
