Markus is a recruitable character in Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. He is also known as Markus the Skeleton King.
He was first revealed as a Kickstarter stretch goal at 3.125 million USD on August 17, 2020. The goal was met early the following day. Markus' appearance was decided by a poll on the official Eiyuden Chronicle Discord on August 21, 2020, with the result being revealed on August 24.
History

A mysterious soldier of the night, described as dark and macabre. Markus was a human king in the time of the Oldest Realm, a Kingdom which came into the possession of a Primal Lens. Markus' advisor Diradhe however used the lens to become undead, converting much of Markus' Kingdom into revenants and creating a barrier around Castle Harganthia which could only be crossed by the dead. Markus confronted Diradhe, but the latter fled with Markus' lover who he converted into the Dead Countess in an attempt to win her heart. Despairing at the loss of much of his Kingdom, Markus approached the Primal Lens determined to become the 'Skeleton King' and have his revenge.
In the distant past, Markus tried to found a kingdom for the undead. His attempts would prove to be a costly failure and would force him to flee.
In more modern times, he is content with reigning over a single castle and a band of loyal followers who are likely not considered alive in a medical sense.
Appearance
Markus' appearance was chosen from one of four Junko Kawano concept designs by a user poll on the official Eiyuden Chronicle Discord server on August 21, 2020. The four designs were shared on Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, and Facebook respectively.
Design C, the Skeleton King, would win the poll. The full results, revealed on August 24, were as follows:

- New Wave Vampire - 1842 votes
- Classic Vampire - 187 votes
- Dead Lord - 167 votes

- His name has varied between Marcus and Markus in English materials, but was confirmed to be spelled with a K by Yoshitaka Murayama during a visit to the Eiyuden Chronicle Discord.
- When first revealed through Kickstarter updates, he was listed as coming from "An Old Kingdom".
