Ivy
Sorry, did you say 'shorty'? Oh, you did NOT! All right... We'll see which of us is puny after I rune-slap your scrawny ass into next week!

A Galdean expert in lensology, Ivy was always sensitive about her petite frame when growing up. She eventually turned to technology to overcome what she saw as her personal deficiency. She began building rune arms in order to attain the bulk of her dreams through technology. One of Ivy's classmates in training mocked her mercilessly for her size. After she built her rune arms, the bully confessed his feelings for her, but she shot him down, with a punch.

When fighting, she wore the two massive rune arms she developed through her own research. These arms were powered by rune-lenses and packed an extremely powerful punch. The arms were a way of compensating for her short stature, which is something she was very sensitive about. Despite attaining her rune arm-enhanced figure, Ivy still tried to make herself look bigger with the biggest platform shoes she could wear, but was constantly afraid she'd be outed, so wouldn't allow anyone to touch her shoes.

As an engineer, she worked in Dux Aldric icon 01.png Dux Aldric's IconMapBarrows.pngRune-Lens Research Laboratory in Galdea. Curious as to the unspoken work taking place in the rear of the facility, she sneaked in and discovered the forced internment of Yaelu icon 01.png Yaelu's people. Feeling the need to alert others, she would manage to smuggle Yaelu out inside her tool chest and ended up making contact with Pohl icon 01.png Pohl in IconMapTown.pngArdinale City while hiding from the dux's pursuit. She would join Seign icon 01.png Seign's group in infiltrating the base and uncovering the true depths of Dux Aldric's research.

Ivy blamed herself in part for Dux Aldric's actions as she had worked under his direction. Though she believed in the power of technology, she was also adamant that using technology to inflict atrocities and bring tragedy to the world could never be considered progress. She vowed to do whatever it took to stop him, joining the Alliance in the process.

At the IconMapHQ.pngHeadquarters, she often experimented on her rune arms for new features and improving their existing functionality. Game mods, paint jobs, as well as gear and oil modifications were all areas she tinkered in. She also ideas for rune legs in the back of her mind, though they were low on her priority list. She was impressed with the scale of Pohl's runic tech, while Pohl in turn was amazed by the microtech that allowed Ivy's rune arms to trace the movements of her body. Ivy also regularly maintained Mihlu icon 01.png Mihlu's arm, taking the opportunity to experiment with cutting-edge arm accessories.

Later during the war, Ivy would help reverse engineer runic charges based on the recollections of Garoo icon 01.png Garoo and CJ icon 01.png CJ, alongside Pohl and Code L icon 01.png Code L, as part of the Alliance operation to stop the advance of the Galdean army through IconMapMountain.pngSnowpeak Pass. Ivy was responsible for engineering the yield-adjustor mechanism. Due to the similarities in their work and their shared passion for rune-lens based technology, Ivy would develop a crush on Pohl over the course of the conflict but was reluctant about sharing her feelings.

Following the end of the war, Ivy would gather Dux Aldric's former lab members, becoming the Empire's technology research leader while working to develop a multi-limbed rune arm.

Design

Character designer Junko Kawano noted that the faint glow around Ivy's torso is to indicate that there's a large, glowing rune-lens fitted to her back. This lens is visible on her in-game sprite.

B'baba's Divination

Rune Arm Creator
Ivy was always sensitive about her petite frame. One day, she discovered the solution: if her body wouldn't grow, then she could use technology to make it bigger.

She began building rune arms and attained the bulk of her dreams. No one can call her a shrimp anymore!

Furtive Footwear
Despite attaining her rune arm-enhanced figure, Ivy is still not comfortable with her size.

She tries to make herself look bigger with the biggest platform shoes she can wear, but is constantly afraid she'll be outed, so she won't allow anyone to touch her shoes.

Training at the Imperial Workshop
One of Ivy's classmates in training mocked her mercilessly for her size. After she built her rune arms, the bully confessed his feelings for her, but she shot him down—or rather, knocked him down with a punch.

Feeling awkward because he liked her was no excuse.
